Wittemann brothers

Adolph Wittemann and Charles Rudolph Wittemann (September 15, 1884 – July 1967) were early aviation pioneers.[1]

Biography

They were the children of Emily Wittemann (1859-?) of Missouri. Their father, who died prior to 1910, was from Germany. Charles and Adolph had a company: C. & A. Wittemann of Staten Island, New York. At Teterboro they built the largest bomber of the time. Adolph left the company and Charles teamed up with Samuel P. Lewis to form the Wittemann-Lewis Aircraft Company, Inc. In 1920 Charles was living in Hackensack, New Jersey. He died in July 1967 in Farmingdale, New Jersey. [1] Other siblings include: Herman Wittemann (1886-?) aka Harold; Walter Wittemann (1896-1980); Marie Wittemann (1898-1981) and Elizabeth Wittemann (1895-?); and Paul Wittemann (1894-1987). All the Wittemann children were born in New York City on Staten Island. [2]
